SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-laanc
What does LAANC give drone pilots?
Near real-time authorization for controlled airspace.
- A free weather briefing
- Near real-time authorization for controlled airspace ✔
- A temporary Remote Pilot Certificate
Why: LAANC, the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability, checks requests against FAA data like UAS Facility Maps. If approved, pilots get authorization in near real time.
Huh, didn't know that: LAANC is available to both Part 107 pilots and recreational flyers.
I got LAANC approval in seconds. My drone was so impressed it did a little hover dance.
