SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-moa-military-training-purpose
Why is a military operations area established?
An MOA separates certain military training activities from IFR traffic.
- To ban every civilian flight
- To mark a weather station
- To separate military training from IFR traffic ✔
Why: An MOA contains specified military training within defined limits. ATC may clear nonparticipating IFR traffic through when separation can be provided.
Huh, didn't know that: MOAs are named, such as Camden Ridge MOA, instead of numbered.
Why did the MOA use a calendar? It wanted its training time well defined.
