In the PAVE risk checklist, what does the E stand for?

External pressures: Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment, External pressures.

  1. Equipment
  2. Emergency procedures
  3. External pressures ✔

Why: External pressures are things outside the flight that push you to finish it, like a client waiting or wanting to impress someone. The FAA calls managing them the single most important key to risk management.

Huh, didn't know that: Personal standard operating procedures are one way the FAA suggests to release external pressure.
