SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-spare-batteries-carry-on
Flying on an airliner with spare drone batteries, where must the spares go?
In carry-on baggage only, with the terminals protected.
- In carry-on baggage only ✔
- In checked baggage
- Shipped separately as air cargo
Why: Spare lithium batteries must stay in the cabin, where a problem can be spotted and handled. Cover the terminals or use a case so they can't short circuit.
Huh, didn't know that: Lithium ion batteries are capped at 100 watt-hours each, though airlines may approve up to two spares of 101 to 160 Wh.
Why did the spare battery sit in the cabin? It wanted to be a positive influence.
