SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/elec-known-live-source
Fluke says to check a voltage detector on what before and after each use?
Check it on a known live source first.
- A battery tester
- A known live source ✔
- The metal enclosure
Why: A detector with dead batteries or a fault can tell you nothing is live when something is. Proving it works right before and after protects you from false negatives.
Huh, didn't know that: Fluke calls its 2AC a 'first-line go/no-go tester' for voltage detection.
Why did the optimistic electrician lose his job? He kept on turning negatives into positives.
