SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/eng-pressure-force-area
What physical ratio defines pressure on a surface?
Pressure is normal force divided by area.
- Normal force divided by area ✔
- Area divided by normal force
- Normal force times area
Why: Pressure measures how concentrated a perpendicular force is. The relation is p = F/A, and its SI unit is the pascal, equal to one newton per square metre.
Huh, didn't know that: The same force produces 100 times more pressure on 1 mm squared than on 1 cm squared.
Why did pressure ace geometry? It always knew the area.
