Which type of modulation is commonly used for VHF and UHF voice repeaters?

FM or PM.

  1. SSB
  2. AM
  3. FM or PM ✔

Why: Nearly all VHF and UHF voice repeaters use FM, or its close cousin phase modulation. FM gives clear, quiet audio for local contacts.

Huh, didn't know that: Many repeaters require a CTCSS tone, sometimes called a PL tone, to access them.

The dad joke
Why did the FM signal get invited back to the repeater? It always made a good repeat appearance.
