SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/hunt-deer-see-orange

Does wearing blaze orange make deer spot you more easily?

No. Deer cannot tell red and orange apart from green and brown.

  1. Yes, orange glows brightly to deer
  2. No, deer cannot pick out orange from green and brown ✔
  3. Only on sunny days

Why: Deer are not colorblind, but they cannot distinguish colors like red and orange from green and brown the way people can. Orange matters to other hunters, not to the deer.

Huh, didn't know that: Hunter education courses teach that most game animals have poorer color vision than humans.

The dad joke
Why did the deer ignore the orange vest? It just was not his color.
