When crossing a fence while hunting, what is the first thing to do?

Completely unload your firearm.

Why: Fences, ditches and rough ground are where people stumble. Hunter education says to unload first, every time. Alone, you set the unloaded gun on the far side with the muzzle pointed away, then cross.

Huh, didn't know that: TPWD suggests setting the muzzle on your cap so dirt cannot get into the barrel.
