You want to hunt on someone's private land. What should you do first?

Get permission from the landowner, ideally before the season starts.

  1. Just stay away from the house
  2. Post your own hunting signs
  3. Get the landowner's permission ✔

Why: Always get permission first; hunting private land without it is often trespassing. Visit the landowner before the season, ask about their rules, and learn where the boundaries are.

Huh, didn't know that: Some states require written permission, so hunter education suggests bringing a form for the landowner to sign.

The dad joke
Knock knock. Who's there? Lettuce. Lettuce who? Lettuce hunt here, please, we asked first.
