SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/hunt-mark-blood-trail
Why do hunters mark sign with flagging tape or tissue while trailing a wounded animal?
It shows the direction of travel and keeps you from losing the trail.
- To mark the spot for other hunters to avoid
- To show the path and direction the animal traveled ✔
- Because the law requires it
Why: A line of markers lets you look back and guess where the animal is heading. If the trail goes cold, you can return to the last mark and search from there.
Huh, didn't know that: Hunter education also says to look for sign higher up on plants, not just on the ground.
What's brown and sticky? A stick.
