What should decide the longest shot you will take at game?

Your own proven ability, not just how far your equipment can reach.

  1. The maximum range printed on the ammo box
  2. How far your hunting partner shoots
  3. The distance you can hit consistently in practice ✔

Why: A hunter's code is to never shoot beyond your personal ability. Practice until your shots land in the kill zone every time, and only take shots at distances you have mastered.

Huh, didn't know that: Hunter education says there is no excuse for not sighting in and practicing before the season begins.
