SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/ifr-cleared-as-filed
ATC says 'cleared to the airport as filed.' What does that not include?
The en route altitude you filed.
- The route you filed
- The departure airport
- The altitude you filed for the en route portion ✔
Why: The AIM says 'cleared as filed' covers the route but does NOT include the en route altitude. The altitude must be stated in the clearance, or you must be told to expect one.
Huh, didn't know that: Reading back the full clearance helps catch a missing altitude.
When a flight is proceeding incredibly well, something was forgotten. (Robert Livingston)
