SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/osha-lockout-tagout-controls
On a construction site, what must be done to deenergized circuits before work?
Make them inoperative and tag them wherever they could be energized.
- Turn off one switch and tell the crew
- Make them inoperative and tag every energizing point ✔
- Post one sign at the job trailer
Why: 1926.417(b) says deenergized equipment or circuits must be made inoperative, with tags at all points where they could be energized.
Huh, didn't know that: Tags must plainly identify the equipment or circuits being worked on.
Why did the controls get locked out? They were tired of surprise starts.
