What is required when a construction vehicle has an obstructed rear view?
A reverse signal alarm or an observer is required.
- Use wide-angle side mirrors
- Turn on the hazard lights
- Have a reverse signal alarm or an observer ✔
Why: 1926.601(b)(4) says a vehicle with an obstructed rear view needs a reverse alarm audible above the noise, or it may back up only when an observer signals it is safe.
Huh, didn't know that: The observer signals when it is safe to back up.
Why did the backup alarm join the band? It had a strong reverse tone.
