SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/osha-scaffold-falling-object-protection
Besides hard hats, what protects workers on a scaffold from falling tools and debris?
Toeboards, screens, guardrails or debris nets add protection.
- Nothing beyond hard hats
- Toeboards, screens, guardrails or debris nets ✔
- Flashing lights on the platform
Why: 1926.451(h)(1) says each worker on a scaffold needs protection in addition to a hard hat, such as toeboards, screens, guardrails, debris nets, catch platforms or canopies.
Huh, didn't know that: When objects could fall on workers below, the area under the scaffold can be barricaded and kept off limits.
Why did the debris net get a job? To catch small tools on the rebound.
