SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/run-lane-one
On a standard running track, which lane is lane 1?
Lane 1 is the innermost lane.
- The outermost lane
- The middle lane
- The innermost lane ✔
Why: World Athletics numbers lanes from the inside out, with the left-hand inside lane as lane 1. On a curve, the outer lanes cover more ground, which is why lane races use staggered starts.
Huh, didn't know that: World Athletics sets each lane's width at 1.22 meters, give or take 1 centimeter.
Why did the runner stay in lane 1? He wanted to be in on the inside joke.
