SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/soc-corner-kick-when
A defender knocks the ball over their own goal line, not into the goal. What does the attacking team get?
A corner kick.
- A corner kick ✔
- A goal kick
- A penalty kick
Why: A corner kick is awarded when the whole ball crosses the goal line, without a goal, after last touching a player of the defending team. The ball is placed in the corner area nearest where it went out.
Huh, didn't know that: A goal can be scored straight from a corner kick, sometimes called an Olympic goal.
Why was the soccer field so tidy? Every corner was kicked into shape.
