SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/solar-clipping
When a PV array briefly produces more power than the inverter's AC rating, what happens?
The output is clipped at the inverter rating.
- The extra is stored in the panels
- Output is clipped to the inverter's AC rating ✔
- The inverter doubles its rating
Why: An inverter can only pass its rated AC power. Power above that limit is lost.
Huh, didn't know that: DOE calls the inverter one of the most important pieces of equipment in a solar energy system.
How does the sun get a haircut from the moon? Eclipse it.
