Where is it illegal to fly an ultralight under Part 103?
Over congested areas and open air assemblies of people.
- Over farmland on a calm morning
- Over a lake in daylight
- Over any congested area or open air assembly of persons ✔
Why: Part 103 says no person may operate an ultralight over any congested area of a city, town or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons. A stadium crowd is an example.
Huh, didn't know that: Part 103 does not set a specific altitude number for this rule, only the places you must stay away from.
Why did the ultralight pilot steer around the stadium? He wanted to stay out of the crowd's way and keep his fans on the ground.
