What does a sport pilot need to fly a retractable-gear airplane after MOSAIC?
Training and an instructor endorsement.
- Nothing extra
- Training and an instructor endorsement ✔
- A private pilot certificate
Why: MOSAIC added retractable gear to sport pilot privileges, but not automatically. The pilot needs ground and flight training from an instructor in a retractable-gear aircraft and an endorsement under 61.331.
Huh, didn't know that: The same approach, training plus an endorsement, applies to airplanes with a manual controllable-pitch propeller.
Why did the pilot love his retractable gear? It was always on a roll, then out of sight.
