SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/tech-data-center-redundancy
Why do data centers use redundant power and network systems?
Redundancy helps maintain operation when one component fails.
- To continue through component failures ✔
- To double the speed of every server
- To eliminate all software bugs
Why: Critical utilities and connectivity are designed with alternate paths or backup equipment. If a primary component is disrupted, another can take over and reduce service interruption.
Huh, didn't know that: Data centers also control temperature and humidity to protect equipment from overheating.
The data center brought a backup plan and a backup for the backup plan.
