SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/tech-http-default-port-80
What is the default TCP port for an HTTP URI?
The default HTTP port is TCP 80.
- TCP 22
- TCP 53
- TCP 80 ✔
Why: When an HTTP URI omits an explicit port, clients use TCP port 80 by default. A server can still be configured on another port when the URI names it.
Huh, didn't know that: A default port can be omitted from the URI authority without changing the intended endpoint.
