SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/tennis-six-games-win-set
In a normal tennis set, how many games do you need to win?
Six games, and you must lead by two.
- Six games, ahead by two ✔
- Seven games, ahead by one
- Ten games, ahead by two
Why: The first player or team to win six games wins the set, as long as they are two games ahead. So 6 to 4 wins, but 6 to 5 does not yet.
Huh, didn't know that: A set can end 7 to 5 because 6 to 5 is not a two game lead.
I asked my tennis friend if she was all set. She said, not until I win six games.
