SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/weld-joint-butt
In a butt joint, how do the two pieces meet?
Edge to edge, in the same plane.
- One piece overlaps the other
- They meet at 90 degrees in an L
- Edges meet in the same plane ✔
Why: A butt joint joins two pieces that sit flat in one plane. Edges can be square, beveled, gapped or backed.
Huh, didn't know that: Miller says the edges can be partially or completely beveled through the material thickness.
Why did carbon and hydrogen become fast friends? They really bonded.
