SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/weld-mig-wire-feed-amps
On a MIG welder, wire feed speed mainly affects which two things?
Amperage and penetration.
- Gas flow and slag removal
- Wire color and tip life
- Amperage and weld penetration ✔
Why: Faster wire feed means more amps and more penetration. Too much can cause burn-through.
Huh, didn't know that: For .030 inch wire, Miller multiplies by 2 inches per amp, so 125 amps is about 250 inches per minute.
Knock, knock. Who's there? Wire. Wire who? Wire you always asking, "Who's there?"
