SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/weld-position-vertical-sag
What does the weld puddle naturally tend to do when welding vertically?
It sags down.
- Sag ✔
- Harden instantly
- Float upward
Why: Gravity pulls the molten puddle downward. Welders adjust settings and technique to control it.
Huh, didn't know that: Miller says vertical up is more common than vertical down, especially on thicker material.
Gravity really keeps me grounded.
