Who can generally claim a VAT refund on goods bought in the EU and taken home?
People who live outside the EU can claim VAT back on goods they take home.
- EU residents only
- Non-EU residents ✔
- Anyone, with no conditions
Why: If you live outside the EU, you can get VAT back on goods you bought there. You show the goods and refund papers to customs when you leave, within 3 months of buying them.
Huh, didn't know that: Each EU country runs its own refund process, and some set a minimum purchase amount to qualify.
My VAT refund form and I have a lot in common: we both need a stamp before we fly.
