SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/asvab-standard-score-fifty
On an ASVAB subtest, what does a standard score of 50 mean?
About average. About half of people score 50 or higher.
- You got half the questions right
- About half of people score at or above it ✔
- It is the lowest passing score
Why: Subtest scores are standard scores, compared with a national sample of 18 to 23 year olds. About half score 50 or more, and only about 16% reach 60.
Huh, didn't know that: Subtest standard scores and the AFQT percentile are different scales, so a 50 on one is not the same as a 50 on the other.
What's an average joke? One that's right in the middle of the road. Mean, but fair.
