    Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. ASVAB is short for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. A battery is a group of tests given together, and this one is the test you take to join the US military.

    Deciding if you can enlist and which job fits you. The ASVAB answers two questions: are you qualified to join, and which military jobs suit you? Rank and base come from other rules, not your test score.
