SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-in-flight-emergency-report
After breaking a Part 107 rule to handle an in-flight emergency, when must you send a written report?
When the FAA requests it.
- When the FAA requests it ✔
- Within 10 days, always
- Immediately, to the NTSB
Why: Section 107.21 lets the remote PIC deviate from any Part 107 rule as needed to meet an emergency. A written report of that deviation goes to the FAA only if it asks.
Huh, didn't know that: Safety event reports under section 107.9 are separate, with their own 10-day deadline.
Why did the drone pilot keep notes after the emergency? In case the FAA wanted the whole story.
