SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-vlos-flight-details
What must direct visual observation let the drone crew determine?
It must reveal the drone's attitude, altitude, and direction of flight.
- Only its battery percentage
- Its attitude, altitude, and direction ✔
- Only the camera's direction
Why: Visual line of sight is not merely spotting a dot. The crew must be able to determine location, attitude, altitude, direction, nearby hazards, and whether the aircraft endangers anyone.
Huh, didn't know that: The VLOS rule also requires observing the surrounding airspace for traffic and hazards.
Why did the drone pose for the observer? It wanted the right attitude.
