Which appliance did the 2023 NEC newly require GFCI protection for (150V or less to ground, 60A or less)?
Clothes dryers (and ranges, ovens, microwaves) joined the GFCI list.
- Clothes dryer ✔
- Ceiling fan
- Doorbell transformer
Why: Section 210.8(D) now covers more appliances. Electric ranges, wall ovens, counter-mounted cooking units, clothes dryers and microwave ovens were added.
Huh, didn't know that: The rule applies whether the appliance is hardwired or cord and plug connected.
Why did the dryer get a GFCI? It was tired of getting shocking results.
