SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/hunt-marked-ramrod
What is the safe way to tell if a muzzleloader is loaded?
Use a premarked ramrod to measure how deep the barrel is.
- Blow down the barrel to feel for air
- Snap a cap and listen
- Slide in a premarked ramrod ✔
Why: Mark your ramrod where it stops in an empty barrel. If it stops short of the mark, there is a charge inside. Never blow down the barrel to check.
Huh, didn't know that: TPWD says there should be no gap between the powder charge and the projectile when loaded.
Why did the ramrod get the job? It always measured up.
