SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/hunt-smokeless-powder
What kind of powder should never go in a traditional muzzleloader?
Smokeless powder, unless the gun is specifically designed for it.
- Smokeless powder ✔
- Black powder
- A black powder substitute like Pyrodex
Why: Muzzleloaders are built for black powder or approved synthetic substitutes. Smokeless powder made for modern cartridges burns very differently. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Huh, didn't know that: Black powder is highly corrosive, so muzzleloaders need a thorough cleaning with soap and water after shooting.
Why did the muzzleloader skip the party? It heard there would be too much smoke and mirrors.
