When loading a muzzleloader, how should powder go into the barrel?

From a powder measure, never straight from the flask or horn.

  1. Poured straight from the powder horn
  2. From a separate powder measure ✔
  3. Shaken from the original can

Why: A powder measure gives the correct charge every time. Pouring from the horn or flask means a large supply of powder is right over the barrel. Hunter education rules say never charge directly from the flask or horn.

Huh, didn't know that: Many muzzleloader hunters use a measure preset to their hunting charge.

The dad joke
Why was the powder measure so trusted? It never went overboard.
