In hunter education, what is your 'zone of fire'?

The area where you can safely shoot, out in front of you and away from partners.

  1. The area where you can safely shoot ✔
  2. How far your bullet can travel
  3. How wide your shotgun pattern spreads

Why: A zone of fire is the area or direction in which you can safely fire a shot. In a group, each hunter gets a slice in front that never crosses a partner. Never swing your gun outside yours.

Huh, didn't know that: Courses size it differently, from about 45 degrees to roughly 10 to 2 on a clock, but every zone stays in front of you and away from partners.

The dad joke
Why did the hunter stay in his zone? He did not want to cross any lines.
