SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/osha-temporary-lighting-guards
On a construction site, what must temporary lamps for general lighting have?
Protection from accidental contact or breakage.
- A bulb of at least 100 watts
- Protection from accidental contact or breakage ✔
- Nothing extra if used outdoors
Why: 1926.405(a)(2)(ii)(E) says all lamps for general illumination must be protected from accidental contact or breakage. Metal-case sockets must be grounded.
Huh, didn't know that: Temporary lights may not hang by their cords unless the cords and lights are made for it.
Why did the temporary light get a guard? To avoid contact with the bulb.
