When is true rest better than a light active-recovery workout, per Cleveland Clinic?
When you are sick or injured (or short on sleep).
- When you feel great
- The day after an easy run
- When you are sick or injured ✔
Why: Active recovery means light movement on a rest day, like a runner cycling or swimming instead of running. But if you are injured, sick or short on sleep, true rest such as sleep may be the better choice.
Huh, didn't know that: Cleveland Clinic lists less muscle soreness and better blood circulation among the benefits of active recovery.
Why did the runner take up swimming on rest days? He wanted to stay in the swim of things.
