When do signs of decompression sickness usually appear after a dive?
Between 15 minutes and 12 hours after the dive.
- Only while still underwater
- Only 3 or more days later
- Between 15 minutes and 12 hours after ✔
Why: DCS often starts after you are back on the boat or at the hotel, which is why divers ignore it. Rarely, it can show up as late as 36 hours.
Huh, didn't know that: Many divers deny symptoms, blaming sunburn or tiredness. PADI says to watch for them in yourself and your buddy.
Even after the dive is over, keep an eye out. The ocean likes a good sequel.
