During a penalty kick, where must the goalkeeper be until the ball is kicked?
On the goal line, between the posts, facing the kicker.
- On the goal line between the posts ✔
- Anywhere in the goal area
- At least 1 yard off the line
Why: The defending goalkeeper must stay on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the posts until the ball is kicked. At the kick, at least part of one foot must be touching, in line with, or behind the line.
Huh, didn't know that: If the goalkeeper saves a penalty after leaving the line early, the kick is retaken.
Why do goalkeepers love the goal line? It's the only line they never cross early.
