SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/tennis-wait-cross-court
When is it correct to walk behind a court during a match?
Wait for the point to end, then cross behind the court.
- During a long rally to save time
- Between points after the point ends ✔
- Only after the whole match ends
Why: Crossing during a point distracts the players. Wait until the point is finished, then pass quickly behind the court.
Huh, didn't know that: The same USTA courtesy list says to start and end your match with a warm greeting or handshake.
Why did the walking spectator get a tennis warning? He crossed the line, literally.
