As the drill bit gets larger, what should happen to drill press spindle speed?

Speed should be reduced.

  1. It should be increased
  2. It should be reduced ✔
  3. It stays the same

Why: A big bit's edge travels faster at the same RPM, which overheats and dulls it. Larger holes need slower RPM.

Huh, didn't know that: Pilot holes should be used on holes larger than 3/8 inch, and holes are enlarged in no more than 1/4 inch steps.

The dad joke
Not all construction work is equally enjoyable. For instance, drilling a large hole is boring, but fastening two pieces of metal together is riveting.
