SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/tennis-code-doubt-in
What should you call if you are not sure whether a shot was out?
Call it in. Doubt goes to your opponent.
- Out to keep pressure on
- Let and replay the point
- In, because doubt goes to your opponent ✔
Why: The Code says any doubt is resolved in favor of your opponent. A ball you cannot call out is good, and you may not claim a let because you did not see it.
Huh, didn't know that: If you ask your opponent and neither of you has an opinion, the ball is good (The Code, section 11).
Why do tennis players make good detectives? They never call out unless there is clear evidence.
